Industrial steam turbines: What harm can lubricating oil cause to a steam turbine?
The installation of industrial-driven steam turbines requires numerous components, and the full functionality of certain parts also depends on these components. However, since lubricating oil is frequently added to equipment, it often doesn't receive much attention from customers—very few customers even consider how lubricating oil might affect their equipment.
The installation of industrial drive turbines requires numerous components, and the full functionality of certain parts also depends on these components. However, since motor oil is frequently added to equipment, it often doesn't receive much attention from customers—very few customers even consider the potential harm that motor oil might cause to their equipment. Different types of motor oil can have varying effects on equipment:
1. The quality and temperature of automotive engine oil are key factors that directly affect the safety and economic performance of industrial-driven steam turbines utilizing waste heat recovery. The oil system for waste heat power generation is responsible for supplying sufficient high-quality lubricant to all rolling bearings of the waste heat recovery diesel generator and providing pressurized oil to the control system. Additionally, during turbine trip operations, it supplies oil to both the trip mechanism and the bearings. Only when the oil system operates normally can the safe operation of all related oil systems and equipment be ensured.
2. The DDV servo valve in the adjustment system software of the industrial-driven steam turbine has become stuck, causing significant fluctuations in the generator set’s load and an abnormal rise in safety steam pressure, which seriously jeopardizes the safe operation of the generator set. After filtering the oil using a vacuum oil filter and a plate-type vacuum oil filter, the problem gradually subsided. Samples taken from the inlet of the cooler showed normal operating conditions. Samples taken from the bottom of the oil tank were analyzed to check for contaminants and moisture, ensuring that the oil’s viscosity, water content, mechanical impurities, and demulsibility remained within acceptable limits.
The level of harm caused by automotive oil varies significantly. Industrial steam turbines are not standalone devices; rather, they rely on the coordinated operation of each component. Moreover, the equipment can only operate efficiently when adequately lubricated with automotive oil. Only by properly accounting for the potential impacts among different components can we ensure the stable operation of the equipment.
