Turbine Installation Manufacturer: Throttle Adjustment Method

The throttle adjustment method, also known as the mass adjustment method, involves steam entering all nozzles through one or more regulating valves that open and close simultaneously. Only when the regulating valves are fully open at rated load does the throttling loss remain minimal, resulting in high turbine efficiency. As the load decreases, the regulating valves partially close, causing the steam to undergo throttling within the valves themselves. After the steam pressure is reduced, it enters the turbine. Due to the presence of the throttling effect, throttling losses occur, and consequently, the turbine's efficiency declines as well.

Turbine Installation Manufacturer: Nozzle Adjustment Method

Also known as the throttling control method, steam entering the turbine passes through a set of primary nozzles. The turbine load is regulated by sequentially opening and closing several regulating valves, with each valve controlling a group of nozzles. The degree of opening of each regulating valve is determined based on the load. Even when the regulating valves are not fully open, there is still throttling loss; however, this loss affects only a portion of the total fresh steam flow. Consequently, at low loads, the throttling loss is relatively small compared to that in throttling-regulated turbines, resulting in better economic performance. The downside is that the adjustment process is complex during maintenance and installation. Moreover, when operating conditions change, the temperature in the regulating chamber fluctuates significantly, and the load cannot be changed too rapidly.

Turbine installation manufacturer: Bypass regulation method

Steam turbines equipped with throttling regulation—particularly reactive steam turbines—are widely used. Typically, at the turbine’s economic load, the main regulating valve remains fully open. However, when the load exceeds the economic level, the bypass valve is opened to divert fresh steam to the subsequent stages of blades. The advantage of this design is its high operational efficiency and minimal throttling losses at the economic (design) load. On the other hand, when the load surpasses the economic level, the proportion of bypass steam relative to high-quality metallic materials increases accordingly, and the overall efficiency declines due to increased throttling losses in the bypass valve and higher pressure in the bypass chamber.
